Call for Abstracts
SUBMISSION DEADLINE HAS PASSED.
We invite you to submit an abstract for presentation at the World Federation of Neuroscience Nurses 10th Quadrennial Congress, May 23-27, 2009. The theme of the congress is "Founded on Tradition Focused on Tomorrow".
Abstracts should be submitted as either a presentation or poster, in one of the following three main topic categories:
- Scientific
Abstracts should include descriptions of original research studies (including performed and framed case studies), systematic literature reviews and methodological issues related to neuroscience nursing research. Research "in progress" is also acceptable for presentation.
Session duration: 30, 50 or 60 minute sessions.

Educational / Clinical / Professional Development
Abstracts should provide overviews of education, clinical practice and professional development within specific areas of neuroscience nursing (including case studies).

Workshops
Abstracts should be prepared and presented by a minimum of two authors. Panel discussions are also included in this category. Time is allocated by the amount of discussion and audience interaction planned.
Session duration: 60 or 90 minutes
- Applicants may indicate a preference for either a presentation or a poster for their abstract. However, the WFNN Scientific Committee will make final decisions about formats and may cluster abstracts into sessions.
- Poster size is limited to a maximum of 8 feet by 4 feet and should be laminated with velcro to attach them to the poster board.
- If more than two authors plan to make a presentation, applicants should apply for a workshop presentation (see below).
- Abstracts must be submitted on-line using a Web browser (Netscape Navigator, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Opera, etc.).
- You may use a text editing program such as Microsoft Word to write your abstract and paste the text into the abstract text area, BUT you must avoid the use of special characters to make sure your browser will not misinterpret the special characters typed.
- Use Arial, 10 pt.
- The on-line form requires that you submit the final version of your abstract, including the supporting information because the program does not allow for editing once submitted.
- When you have entered all of your information you will click the "Submit" button.
- Once you submit, you will receive an e-mail message confirming successful receipt of the abstract; this e-mail message will also contain a copy of the abstract as received.

ABSTRACT REVIEW PROCESS AND GENERAL INFORMATION
- All abstracts will be reviewed by the WFNN Scientific Programme Committee.
- Abstract titles should be brief, clear and reflect the content of the paper.

The abstract (excluding the title, author names and affiliations) should be maximum 2500 characters long, including spaces. The text of the abstract should be organized as follows, including subheadings in CAPITAL LETTERS.
For Scientific papers:
- Objective(s)
- Background
- Methods
- Results (adequate to support conclusion)
- Conclusion(s)
For Educational, Clinical, Professional Development and Workshop papers:
- Up to three(learning) objective(s)
- Background
- Content
- Conclusion(s) (Educational and Professional Development papers)
In addition, applications to present Workshops and oral Educational, Clinical, Professional Development papers should be supplemented by an outline of the proposed session, stating the following:
- Topic, presenting author, estimated time
- Organisation of presentation
- Handout(s) to be used
A maximum of five (5) references (Bibliography in Educational, Professional Development and Workshop abstracts) are allowed in the abstract. However, please note that references are included in the maximum of 2500 characters. Reference lists should be written as follows:
For journal articles:
Last name of the first author Abbreviated journal title (according to the National Library of Medicine click here) year of publication; journal volume number: page number of first article page.
Example: Hunt. Qual Life Res 1997; 6: 205.
If the reference has two authors, provide the last name of both, separated by "&".
Example: Holloway & Dick. Neurology 2002; 58: 679.
If the reference has three or more authors, provide only the last name of the first author followed by a comma and "et al".
Example: Hobart, et al. Curr Opin Neurol 1996; 9: 441.
For books:
Last name of author(s). Book title. City of publication: Publisher, year of publication.
Example: Bowling. Research methods in health. West Sussex: Maidenhead: Open University press. 1997.
All authors should be given when referring to a complete book.
For chapters in edited books:
Multiple book chapter authors are listed as for journal articles (see above).
Last name of the first author. In: last name of book editor(s), (ed.). Book title. City of publication: Publisher, year of publication: page number of first book chapter page.
Example: Leplège & Verdier. In: Shumaker, Berzon (ed.).International use and performance of health-related quality of life instruments. Oxford: Oxford Rapid Communication, 1995. p. 93.
Abstracts cannot include tables or figures.
Deadline: Receipt of your abstract is August 31, 2008.
Acceptance: Submitters will be notified by November 30, 2008.

Important: Please bring with you to the Congress a CD-ROM/USB copy containing your abstract and author details in Microsoft Word.
WFNN CONGRESS PAPER AWARDIn the tradition of past WFNN Congresses, all accepted abstracts of the 10th Quadrennial Congress of Neuroscience Nurses will be considered for one of several prestigious awards. Authors of the "top 10" abstract submissions will be notified before the Congress and recognized at the Closing Ceremony.
The 10 selected presentations will be subjected to additional review during the meeting. The top 3 presentations will receive additional recognition and award at the Closing Ceremony.
